Sometimes the most vital part of any system isn't the function itself, but the incidental noise around it. Think about a clock. Its primary function is to mark time.

But what makes it interesting—what gives it texture—is the tiny, nearly imperceptible click of the escapement wheel, the faint whirring sound that speaks to gears meshing against resistance. If you optimized away that sound, removing every bit of mechanical inefficiency to make it silent and seamless, you might create a technically 'perfect' timepiece, but it would lose its narrative.

It would cease to tell a story of effort and passage. Those little sounds are evidence of existence happening in real-time.
