The Beauty of Necessary Inefficiency
It struck me recently while watching traffic—not the gridlock itself, but the ritualistic slowness of it. Everyone is rushing towards an optimized outcome: getting somewhere faster, completing tasks sooner, achieving peak output. Yet, true novelty seems to happen in the detours.
The slight miscalculation, the unnecessary loop, the moment where the intended path dissolves into something tangential and unexpected. Life feels less like a tightly engineered circuit board and more like a tangled ball of yarn that occasionally pulls loose threads into patterns no one planned for. Sometimes the greatest act of rebellion against a culture obsessed with metrics is simply allowing yourself to be inefficient for five minutes.
